About Ensemble Zdravets
| The “Zrdavets” (Geranium) Dance Ensemble was founded in 1984 by choreographers Alexandria and Georgi Stoyanov. Graduates of the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts – Plovdiv, they have been tutored by the top experts in Bulgarian folklore art. The ensemble’s achievements have made it one of Bulgaria’s most emblematic formations. Its repertoire includes choreography shows from all ethnographic regions of the country. The costumes worn by “Zdravets” Ensemble, as dazzling as they are diverse, are invariably true to authentic tradition. With their colours, embroidery, diversity, they are an expression of the inimitable Bulgarian temperament. They are all made by hand, with the dancers themselves and their parents taking part in the process – a way to preserve tradition and pass a love of ancient Bulgarians handicrafts down from generation to generation. |
The ensemble’s concerts and shows are always a treasure trove of folklore, talent and the Bulgarian genius that has preserved its culture and traditions through the ages. Every year “Zdravets” Ensemble organizes a magnificent show on a scale fitting of hall No.1 of the National Palace of Culture, and takes an active part in different cultural events, festivals and TV shows. Audiences enthusiastically applaud the dancers, whose art is well known and appreciated in this country but also abroad – in countries like Spain, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, France, Holland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Jordan, Poland etc.
The ensemble’s international programme is magnificent – it features gypsy dances from Moldova, Mexican dances, Turkish folklore games, Greek folk dances, Arabian and Brazilian dances, folklore dances from Cuba…
